The NTNU UAV Lab focuses on the following research topics:
- Icing at low Reynolds numbers on typical UAV geometries, 2D and 3D
- Icing on rotors and propellers
- Optimization of ice protection systems
- Ice detection with sensors and performance monitoring
- Pathplanning of UAV missions in adverse weather conditions
- System identification of iced UAVs
We are working on these topics in collaboration with several national and international partners. Our research goals are achieved by our work with a wide range of methods:
- Numerical CFD simulations with ANSYS Fluent and FENSAP-ICE
- Experimental icing wind tunnel tests
- Experimental conventional wind tunnel tests
- Flight tests
- Control and optimization
The overall objectives of the NTNU UAV Icing Lab are:
- Provide knowledge and solutions for the industry
- Generate excellent research and publications
- Take a leading role in the research community
