About

The NTNU UAV Lab focuses on the following research topics:

  • Icing at low Reynolds numbers on typical UAV geometries, 2D and 3D
  • Icing on rotors and propellers
  • Optimization of ice protection systems
  • Ice detection with sensors and performance monitoring
  • Pathplanning of UAV missions in adverse weather conditions
  • System identification of iced UAVs

We are working on these topics in collaboration with several national and international partners. Our research goals are achieved by our work with a wide range of methods:

  • Numerical CFD simulations with ANSYS Fluent and FENSAP-ICE
  • Experimental icing wind tunnel tests
  • Experimental conventional wind tunnel tests
  • Flight tests
  • Control and optimization

The overall objectives of the NTNU UAV Icing Lab are:

  • Provide knowledge and solutions for the industry
  • Generate excellent research and publications
  • Take a leading role in the research community
